The one-year programme in nature management mainly consist of biological and management related courses. You learn about biological diversity and management of cervids and fish. This one-year programme is an excellent opportunity for candidates who want to start taking a higher education in nature management or who want to create their own nature-based business.

The programme includes courses that when combined provide insight into key aspects of nature management values. In addition to lectures, most courses consist of field courses, excursions and project assignments. Some parts of the teaching takes place in the field, e.g. elk hunting, electric fishing and ptarmigan assessment. Parts of the teaching may be given in English.

Upon successful completion of this programme, the candidate:

Knowledge:

  • have basic knowledge of nature and nature management in Norway
  • have knowledge of basic biological topics; zoology, ethology, chemistry and genetics
  • have basic knowledge of Norwegian forest management and Norwegian forestry

Skills:

  • have practical knowledge of hunting, fishing and game and fish management

General competence:

  • be able to account for and communicate basic knowledge of natur
Higher education entrance qualification. Norwegian language proficiency. This programme is only taught in Norwegian. If you do not meet the Norwegian language proficiency requirements, you do not qualify for admission. View general admission and documentation requirements.
If you choose to continue on our bachelor`s programme in nature management, you will qualify for a variety of positions, such as e.g. in nature management, game and fish management, landscape planning, information work and nature inspection for both private and public organisations and offices.
The one-year programme in nature management is equivalent of the first year of study on the bachelor's programme in nature management. Students may apply for transfer to the bachelor's programme in nature management upon finishing at least 50 of the 60 study credits in the programme.
The study programme does not have an option to study abroad.

Students should further expect costs to incur in relation to transportation, accommodation and catering related to non-mandatory excursions and field courses.In addition to the semester fee and syllabus literature, it is assumed that students have a laptop with microphone and camera.

Students must purchase their own laboratory coat for use in courses with laboratory exercises.

Please note that we depend on students providing their own car for driving on certain excursions. All driving will be compensated according to the state's mileage rates.

Students will be evaluated and graded based on home exams, oral examinations and written examinations, or a combination, using the regular Norwegian grading system. See individual course descriptions for details.

The Norwegian system for grading and assessment using the letter grades A - F, in which A denotes the best/highest grade and F denotes "not passed". Candidates work can also be assessed as "passed", "not passed", "approved" and "not approved". See rules and regulations.

This programme is evaluated annually by students through course evaluations as well as by the Programme Coordinator. The evaluations form part of the Nord University Quality Assurance System.
