Theme of the Lecture
Research today takes place in a world undergoing profound societal transformation. Drawing on research in intellectual property management, technology transfer, patent informatics, and innovation for circular economy transitions – as well as insights from international research collaborations – the lecture explores how ideas move from academia into practice and how this journey is shaped.
In particular, the lecture reflects on how innovation, intellectual property, and institutional arrangements influence major economic and societal transitions, ranging from the circular economy and green public procurement to emerging technologies such as quantum computing and AI-supported IP tools.
About the Speaker
Dolores Modic is Professor of Innovation and Management at the Business School at Nord universitet, where she has been employed since 2019.
She has held several prestigious research fellowships, including a JSPS Fellowship in Japan and a Fulbright Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA). She has also been a visiting researcher at University of Cambridge.
Professor Modic has led or contributed to more than 20 research projects and has helped secure over €8 million in competitive funding across Europe, the United States, and Asia.
With 20 years of teaching experience, she has taught a wide range of subjects, including intellectual property, innovation management, and circular economy. She has published in leading journals in innovation and management.
Her research is driven by a strong interest in the evolving role of innovation and intellectual property, and in how enabling technologies can be adopted to address major societal challenges.
She actively contributes to the development of academic communities through supervision, co-hosting conference tracks, serving on program and other committees, acting as guest editor for special issues, and reviewing for several top-tier journals. She also collaborates with national agencies and is strongly engaged in outreach activities.
