The semester package in Microbiology and Methods includes the following courses which amount to 30 ECTS:

- MET1006 Scientific Methods

- BIO2012 Aquatic Microbiology

- BIO2021 Microbiology

Upon successful completion of the programme the student should

Knowledge

  • Understand the principles and theories of using various scientific methods to address biological questions;
  • Understand the basic structure and functions of microbes;
  • Have a broad knowledge of microbiology and scientific methods.

Skills

  • Perform a critical evaluation of published scientific information;
  • Be able to carry out various types of basic biology techniques;
  • Be able to use basic biology terminology.

General competence

  • Present and disseminate scientific results to other scientists and the public.
Exchange students are admitted on the basis of nomination by their home institution. The student must first apply to their home university to participate. The home institution will provide the student With information about the admission requirements. The applicant must be a full-time student on a bachelor's programme in biology or other related fields and have completed a minimum of 1.5 years of their degree.
The semester package can generally be acknowledged as one semester of undergraduate education at universities, related to study programmes within aquaculture, marine biology or ecology. Upon transfer to our BSc in Biology and graduation in the programme, students are qualified for MSc in Biology and Aquaculture.
In addition to curriculum literature, it is assumed that the student has a laptop.

Students take an active part in the evaluation of the courses in the programme through mid-term and final evaluation. Dialogue meetings are also conducted between students and the programme director every semester.
