The Master in HRM programme is an experience-based master's degree comprising 90 ECTS credits, including a thesis of 30 ECTS credits.

This programme provides basic professional knowledge in a social science research environment and in the scientific foundation for this programme.

Courses on this programme that have less than 10 students enrolled will be provided as reading courses.

On successful completion of the programme the student should:

Knowledge and understanding:

  • be able to analyze existing theories, methods and interpretations in the field and work independently with practical and theoretical problem-solving
  • be able to interpret, critically evaluate and use appropriate methods for research in an independent manner
  • be able to locate, assess, and refer to information and professional HRM material and present this


Skills:

  • possess advanced knowledge of HRM and specialized knowledge in fields such as organization, recruitment, payroll systems, participation and leadership
  • be able to use relevant tools, techniques and forms of expression
  • be able to apply knowledge in new areas within the HRM-field


General competence:

  • be able to analyze relevant academic, professional and ethical issues regarding HRM
  • be able to master self-study and master the subject area of expression and concepts
  • be able to communicate regarding technical HRM issues, analysis and conclusions in the field, both for HRM specialists and the general public

Admission requires a bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS credits or an equivalent education of at least three years duration with an average grade of C or better. Applicants must also demonstrate two years of relevant work experience, as well as knowledge of social science research methods comprising at least 10 ECTS credits.

Ranking of applicants for the Master of Human Resource Management:

If there are more qualified applicants than the amount of places available, the applicants will be ranked based on the following:

Calculating of weighed average grade for the topics included in the calculation basis (including any improved grades). If an applicant meets more than one admission criteria, the best admission criteria for the applicant will be calculated.

Applicants with foreign education will be considered on an individual basis.

The programme will enable students to analyze, manage and develop modern organizations, both private companies and government agencies, by providing research-based knowledge management and organizational design. The target group involved is employees and managers at various levels and with different functions in the private and public sectors wishing to upgrade their skills in management and organization. The Master's degree qualifies for management of people in work organizations in general, not only to management positions related directly to the HR field.

Our Master in Human Resource Management (HRM) does not qualify students for the doctoral programme (P.hd.).

After completing the Master of Human Resource Management (HRM) you might be eligible to apply for the Supplementary module in social science research design, methods and analysis (SOS5000) to further qualify for a P.hd. at one of the Norway’s universities.

The experience-based master's degree programme (90 ECTS credits) does not offer exchange opportunities.

Final graduation examination for the study programme is the master thesis
The programme is evaluated via student questionnaire, as well as by the programme director. The evaluations form a part of the University's quality assurance system.
