Geographic Information Systems
See study programmeThe study is mainly based on specific cases, with exercises in data collection, geographic analyzes, terrain models and map presentations. Theory in lectures supports the exercises. Students will work with impact assessment, suitability analysis, risk and vulnerability analysis and land use planning.
The study is based on lectures that will be made available on NORD's online classroom. There are three compulsory collections during the course. Each collection is on four days (arrival lunch the first day and leaving lunch last day). At the collections there will be focus on practical exercises on the GIS lab and field exercises
After completing the course the candidate will have obtained the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
- have good knowledge of different methods for collecting, processing, analyzing and presenting geographical information
- have a good knowledge of available data for geographic information
- have good knowledge of GIS software
- have good knowledge of which standards apply to geographic information
Skills:
- can schedule and perform data collection in fields based on GNSS, drone and handheld data collection devices
- can use GIS software for collection, processing, analysis and presentation of geographic information
General competence:
- communicate GIS academic knowledge to different target group, both written and oral
- can exchange views with others and participate in discussions on the development of good practice in the field of GIS
