Course Descriptions:

American Literature and Culture

This course introduces the rich, complex, and sometimes controversial social, cultural, and literary history of the United States; we will discuss a selection of important and provocative texts from America and beyond, including a wide range of modern forms and cultural artifacts. Taking a contextualized and critical look at what it means to be "American," this course will provide students with a firm understanding of key topics in American studies,

Research and Academic Writing

This course provides an introduction to academic writing and research in English and English education, as well as to the principles of reading, thinking, and writing critically about scientific research. It guides students step by step from developing a project idea to writing a complete project description. The course also covers argumentation techniques, structure and coherence in academic texts, elements of rhetoric, the use of sources, academic integrity, major research designs, research methods, and key scientific traditions.

English Education

The course will provide an introduction to English subject pedagogy, including planning, reasoning, performing, assessing and developing the teaching of English, with a focus on middle and high school learners. We focus on teaching and learning within the areas of language learning, oral communication, written communication, intercultural competence, digital competence, and adapted learning.

Form and Genre

The course Form and Genre in English Language Literature explores a set of fundamental questions: What is literature, what purpose does it serve, how has it evolved over time, and in what ways does it differ from other forms of discourse? Through an investigation into the three main literary genres—prose, poetry, drama—and how they each function as a unique form of thought and expression, the student will arrive at an understanding of why human beings of all ages turn towards literature for entertainment, education, and a sense of artistic pleasure.

All participants in Experience English: Spring can also add on International English for an additional 5 ECTS:
