The student will on successful completion of the programme :

Knowledge and understanding:

  • Possess basic knowledge of the political history of ideas and political theory
  • Possess basic knowledge of the international political system, globalization processes and more recent phenomena such as international terrorism and global environmental problems
  • Possess basic knowledge of research ethics and social science methodology

Skills:

  • Possess basic skills in collecting, organizing, developing and presenting research-based knowledge
  • Demonstrate basic skills in the analysis of political processes and issues

General competence:

  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the structure and function of local, regional and national political systems, and the recent developments and changes associated with these
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of the role and significance of organizations and how they function, and be able to analyze organizations and organizational change processes

Applicants must fulfil the requirements for Norwegian General Study competence as well as language proficiency requirements in Norwegian and English language.

The programme qualifies students for executive and middle management positions in the public sector. It also provides good background for administrative work in the private sector, NGOs and voluntary organizations, where knowledge about politics, administration and organization will be suitable backgrounds. The programme is also very well suited for graduates seeking employment in schools or in journalism.

Graduates qualify for admission to the following master level programmes: The Master of Social Work, The Master of Rehabilitation, The Master of Human Resource Management at the Faculty of Social Sciences, at University of Nordland as well as relevant master degree programmes at other universities.

Students may apply to undertake their practice period abroad. In order to be able to go on a practice period abroad students will need to have passed the first academic year with a weighted average grade C.

Bachelor thesis
The programme is evaluated via student questionnaire, as well as by the programme director. The evaluations form a part of the University's quality assurance system.
