  • can describe the history and traditions of the field, as well as its distinctive character and place in society
  • can explain the organization of the Norwegian health service
  • can use knowledge about the human anatomy and physiology in examinations, assessments and treatment of patients
  • can apply knowledge of general pathology in diagnosis and treatment of patients
  • can recognize earlier symptoms and signs of severe mental and somatic disease
  • can describe correct prehospital diagnosis and treatment of different types of sickness and injuries
  • can render principles for organization and working at different places of injury
  • can apply knowledge of health, environment and safety to secure oneself and others at work
  • can acquire new and updated knowledge of the field

The candidate

  • can provide correct treatment based on observation, assessment and identifications of symptoms and signs of ailment and failure in the vital functions of the patient
  • can make adequate assessment in medical transportation based on the patient’s needs, the operative situation and changes in the patient care continuity
  • can perform correct and proper treatment with the use of medication
  • can demonstrate correct use and interpretation of relevant medicinal-technical equipment for diagnostics and medical treatment
  • can document patient treatment in relevant documentation systems in accordance to the requirements and standards in the field
  • can utilize techniques of communication and conflict management when interacting with patients, relatives, colleagues and partners.
  • can work safely and efficient at different incidents and places of injury
  • can describe the role and responsibilities of fire, police and other departments at incidents and damage sites
  • can organize and lead health personnel at incidents of varying size and scope
  • can organize and manage a place of injury together with the fire and police department

  • Can provide ethically and professionally sound prehospital diagnostics and treatment of acutely and chronically ill patients in accordance with health professional legislation.
  • Can assess the patient's medical, psychosocial and practical needs and find solutions for how they can be met at the lowest effective level of care (LEON) in line with society's need for efficient resource utilization of the health care system.
  • Can act professionally as a paramedic in a professionally sound way and with respect, care and empathy in interaction with patient/user, relatives and others.
