Bachelor of Lule Saami
See study programmeThe bachelor in Lule Saami degree is comprised of 180 ECTS credits, 90 of which involve a specialization in Lule Saami language, 20 of which are other mandatory courses and 70 of which are electives.
The Lule Saam courses are composed of three study modules: Lule Saami 1, Lule Saami 2 and Lule Saami 3. These focus on language and literature. The other mandatory courses are an introduction to phonetics and linguistics, as well as ex.phil. Phonetics and linguistics is taken during the first year of study. The rest of the elective courses can be in other subject areas (for example other language courses, history, sociology, etc.). Students must decide for themselves which subjects to include as electives, but that should be done in consultation with the student advisor.
During the spring semester of the third year of study, students are expected to write a bachelors thesis focusing on an relevant topic. The thesis will provide the student with both theoretical and practical experience working with scientific, methodological and ethical considerations.
The Lule Saami courses are taught in Lule Saami when possible. The remaining courses are taught in Norwegian, or English if and when required or relevant.
Upon successful completion of this program, the candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate will have
- acquired basic knowledge of the key aspects of the subject and specialized knowledge in selected areas of the field
- acquired basic knowledge in the key areas of a secondary subject, or broader knowledge of selected areas of various subjects
Skills
The candidate will be able to
- communicate both orally and in writing in the Lule Saami language
- navigate the academic literature regarding language and/or literature
- communicate his or her knowledge about language and/or literature that he or she has acquired during the program
General competence
The candidate will
- be able to work independently in professions requiring knowledge of Lule Saami language, culture and literature
- have competence to apply for further education on masters level
