Somatic Practice in Specialist Health Services Part 1
It is expected that the student:
Knowledge
• Can demonstrate and communicate knowledge of the most common diseases (in the current ward), symptoms, pharmacology/medications, examination and treatment in a clinical pathway
• Can demonstrate understanding and insight into the nurse’s area of responsibility and role within the specialist health service
Skills
• Can apply professional knowledge about disease and health in order to systematically observe, assess, implement, evaluate and document appropriate nursing interventions
• Can give oral reports and participate in medical rounds
• Can quality assure and perform medication management in a professionally responsible manner
• Can perform the most common procedures in the department, master infection control routines, and handle medical equipment, technology and digital solutions in a professionally responsible manner
• Can apply professional communication in interaction with patients, relatives, co-workers and other collaborators
General competence
• Can plan and carry out nursing care for pre- and postoperative patients*
• Can identify and reflect on ethical and legal challenges in nursing practice
• Can reflect on his/her own nursing identity, and shows willingness and commitment to develop and adjust his/her own nursing competence under supervision
• Can demonstrate responsibility, commitment and follow professional ethical guidelines in meetings with patients, relatives and co-workers
* This learning outcome must be documented as achieved in somatic clinical practice, part 1 or part 2.
