Animal Science | Master in Biosciences
Do you want to help shape the future of food production? A specialisation in Animal Science within the Master’s in Biosciences gives you knowledge in animal welfare, food safety and new technologies in agriculture!
Programme description
Food production is facing major changes, and this calls for people with broad expertise and strong collaborative skills. In animal science, the focus is not only on the animals themselves, but also on technology, innovation and sustainability. You will become part of the solution to how we can produce food that is efficient, animal‑friendly and safe, while also taking climate and environmental considerations into account.
In our Master’s in Biosciences with a specialisation in Animal Science, you will learn how new technologies are transforming agriculture – and how you can put them into practice. You will gain deep insight into the role of livestock production in society, as well as an understanding of key challenges such as climate impact and sustainable production methods. This is the programme for those who want to combine biology, technology and social engagement to help shape the future of food.
The programme is a full‑time, two‑year course based in Steinkjer.
Career opportunities
With a completed master’s degree in Biosciences with a specialisation in Animal Science, you will be qualified for positions within the livestock industry, consultancy services, as well as research and education.
Teaching methods
Teaching consists of lectures, laboratory exercises, group work and other learning activities.
A completed bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (at least 180 ECTS credits) with a subject group/specialisation of a minimum of 80 ECTS credits in biosciences.
A minimum average grade of C is required.
If you’re interested in spending part of your studies abroad, we encourage our students to go on exchange to one of our partner universities. A period abroad will give you valuable international experience while also giving you access to a wider range of courses and academic opportunities.
For this programme, the second semester is the most suitable time for an exchange stay. The application deadline for studying abroad in the spring semester is 1 September. For more information, please contact our international coordinator, Jose de Pool.
The programme provides a solid foundation for applying to the PhD in Biosciences at Nord University, as well as doctoral programmes at other institutions in Norway or abroad.
