Albina Pashkevich
I am an Associate Professor in Tourism Studies/Geography at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nord University, Campus Levanger, where I am also actively engaged in teaching and research.
I am currently a member of the project team for regional qualification project funded by RFF Trøndelag and Research Council of Norway titled Co-creation for Regenerative Destination Development – A Framework for Governance and Entrepreneurship with Care for Local Communities (RegDU) (2025–2026). Since my appointment at Nord University, I have also worked closely with my nearest colleague, Hin H. Heemstra, on the research project Sustainable Arctic Cruise Communities: from practice to governance (2020-2024), funded by the Research Council of Norway.
My academic interests and expertise are centred on issues of resilience, sustainability and community-based development of peripheral coastal communities, with particular emphasis on nature-based experiences and working conditions within the tourism sector in Nordic societies. My research also addresses the revitalisation of post-mining landscapes through heritage tourism. A key geographical focus of my research has been the Arctic, encompassing both the Canadian and European Arctic, with specific emphasis on Northwest Russia, as well as Fennoscandia (Norway, Sweden and Finland) and Greenland.
Currently, I am involved in teaching at our one-year studies program in Geography and the three-year Bachelor program in Geography and Community Planning. My focus in teaching activities is related to the uses of qualitative methods and techniques, human geography with the focus on regional and local socio-economic development processes, sustainable tourism development and municipal spatial planning.
